Look back at the GLVC's 35th Anniversary Campaign
INDIANAPOLIS - As the 2018-19 academic year officially kicks off today, so too does the Great Lakes Valley Conference's 40th anniversary campaign.
Founded in 1978 as a six-member men's basketball conference, the GLVC has expanded to 14 schools and sponsorship of 22 sports this season, with more growth to come. This past May, Southwest Baptist University was admitted to the league as its 15th member, while Lindenwood University is set to become the Conference's 16th school. Both institutions will begin their first season under the GLVC banner in 2019-20.
"As we embark on another academic season, we are thrilled to be able to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Great Lakes Valley Conference," said Jim Naumovich, who is beginning his 18th season as the league's longest-tenured commissioner. "Clearly we have some exciting times ahead of us with the addition of new members and new sports, but it's important to look back and reflect on how much we have grown as a conference in the last 40 years."
In celebration of the GLVC's 40th anniversary, the league office released today its ceremonial logo, which will be utilized across all platforms this season. Just as it paid homage to 35 milestone moments during its 35th anniversary five years ago, the Conference will recognize 40 teams that made a significant impact to the league or on their respective campuses over the course of the last 40 years. One team will be featured weekly on all GLVC online and social media platforms until the conclusion of the campaign on May 31, 2019. In addition, a 60-second public service announcement (PSA) will also be produced to highlight the league's history, and will air on all events streamed on the GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN) this year.
