Seven Students Will Receive GLVCSN Extra Credit at GLVC Basketball Tournaments

INDIANAPOLIS – Seven students from five Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) institutions are set to take part in the league’s seventh annual GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN) Extra Credit initiative at the GLVC Basketball Championship Tournament, held at First Community Arena at the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Illinois, March 3-6. The program provides the students an opportunity to take over two GLVCSN broadcasts and have complete control of the coverage from start to finish, while also taking part in the fields of game operations and media relations.

Thursday’s last quarterfinal of the night between No. 2 seed Lewis University and No. 7 McKendree University in men’s action at 8:30 p.m. CT and Friday’s first quarterfinal between No. 5 Lewis and No. 4 Truman State University will be the two games covered by the Extra Credit crew.

William Jewell College senior Gray Paholke is back for his third experience at the postseason affair after participating in the initiative as a freshman in 2019 and sophomore in 2020, while University of Southern Indiana junior Michael Rust is also a return crew member in the program, having participated in the 2020 edition.

The remaining five students participating in 2022 include three from Lindenwood University in graduate student Myah LeFlore, and seniors Dominic Hoscher and Troy Johnson. University of Indianapolis senior Corbin Lingenfelter will join Extra Credit, along with Truman State University junior Emmie McConnell.

Paholke is studying public relations with aspirations in play-by-play at either the collegiate or professional level, while Rust, Lingenfelter, and Hoscher all aspire to enter the broadcasting field and are respectively studying Radio/Television, Communications, and Mass Communications with an emphasis in Broadcasting.

Johnson and LeFlore are both studying Sports Management with goals to work in athletics administration after graduation, while McConnell is pursuing her degree in Communications and Public Relations and hopes to use her creativity in various forms of communication.

Prior to Friday’s first quarterfinal, the Extra Credit crew will meet to break down Thursday night’s broadcast and exchange ideas on how to improve the upcoming contest.

GLVCSN Extra Credit began at the 2015 GLVC Basketball Tournament by allowing eight students from five member institutions to take over GLVCSN coverage for two games. In 2016, the program boasted 12 students from seven GLVC schools, while 10 students from four campuses took part in the 2017 edition. In 2018, 10 students from six institutions participated in the program, and 12 students representing eight institutions returned to the program in 2019. The last initiative took place in 2020 with eight students from six member schools, as COVID-19 canceled the experience in 2021.
