Bracket Released for GLVC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship Tournaments

INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) released the 2022 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament brackets Sunday night ahead of this week’s event at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center hosted by Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo., from April 29-May 1.

Both men's and women’s squads from Indianapolis earned perfect Conference records at 6-0, respectively, to claim the GLVC East Division titles, as well as the No. 1 seeds within the division. The UIndy women won its fifth-straight East title, while the Greyhound men won their eighth consecutive. The Drury University men and the Southwest Baptist University women picked up the West Division’s top seeds, as well as the divisional titles with perfect 6-0 clips of their own. For SBU, this is its second divisional crown, while the Panthers earn their 10th.

The 2022 event marks the 41st annual edition for the women and 43rd for the men.

The top-four teams based on highest divisional winning percentage from each of the GLVC's two divisions earn a spot in the two eight-team tournaments. Both events are single-elimination with a championship match conducted on Sunday. On Friday, all of the men’s matches will begin at 9 AM Central Time with all of the women’s contests starting at 2 PM, while Saturday and Sunday contests are slated for 9 AM and 12 PM. These times are subject to change if any inclement weather forces the event indoors.

The men will kick off the postseason with top-seeded and East Division Champion UIndy facing the No. 4 seed in the West, Rockhurst University, which went 3-3 in the West, at 9 AM Central Time. This is the Hawks’ 15th trip to the postseason, while the Greyhounds have 21 appearances. Southwest Baptist University (4-1), the second seed in the West, squares off against the East's No. 3 seed Lewis University (4-2). SBU earned its second berth to the Championship, while Lewis will be playing in its 35th.

The No. 1 seed in the West and divisional champion, Drury University (5-0), will be in action on Friday morning, as well, doing battle with Maryville University (3-3), the No. 4 seed from the East. The Panthers enter their 16th GLVC event, and the Saints are making the trip for just the third time. Also playing Friday morning will be the East’s No. 2 seed, McKendree University (5-1), facing the West’s third seed University of Missouri-St. Louis (3-2). The Bearcats are playing in the tournament for the seventh time, while UMSL will be making its 25th bid.

UIndy has claimed a league-best 12 men's tennis titles, including the last five in a row. Former league member Bellarmine captured eight in its time with the GLVC, while Southern Indiana and Drury both have earned seven apiece. Former league member Northern Kentucky won five, Rockhurst and former league member SIU Edwardsville captured two, and defending champion Southwest Baptist has earned one Conference championship.

On Friday for the women’s tournament, beginning at 2 PM CT, the top-seeded and East Division Champion Greyhounds will battle Rockhurst (3-3), the No. 4 seed in the West. This is UIndy’s league-best 39th bid to the postseason and the Hawks’ 15th. The West's No. 2 seed Drury (5-1) faces East No. 3 University of Illinois Springfield (4-2). UIS fell to the third seed after falling in the middle of a three-way tiebreaker against Lewis and Maryville based on match point differential. The Prairie Stars are making their fifth visit to the tournament, while the Panthers enter for the 16th time.

In the bottom half of the bracket, the top-seeded and West Division Champion SBU Bearcats (6-0) face the East's No. 4 seed, Maryville (4-2) on Friday. The Saints lost a three-way tiebreaker between UIS and Lewis based on match point differential. The winner of that contest will meet the victor between the East's No. 2 seed Lewis (4-2) and Missouri-St. Louis (4-2), which is the No. 3 seed in the West. Lewis is seeing the league’s postseason affair for the 37th time and facing a team that will be in its 16th.

UIndy holds the most women's crowns with 12, including the last two in a row. Drury follows with eight, while former league members Saint Joseph’s (7) and Northern Kentucky (6) both earned several in their time competing in the GLVC. Southern Indiana has three Conference crowns, Lewis has two, and former members Bellarmine and SIUE each earned one.

The men's championship final match will take place at 9 AM on Sunday, while the women’s title contest will take place at approximately 12 PM, or after the conclusion of the men’s match.

Daily admission is free of charge.
