INDIANAPOLIS – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the 2022-23 Scholar All-America winners with three Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) teams making the top-20 list and 44 wrestlers being honored.
For the fifth time in six seasons, Maryville University sits atop the NWCA Scholar All-America Team listing for NCAA Division II, posting a GPA of 3.487. University of Indianapolis followed in third with a 3.386 GPA, while Drury University was ninth with a GPA of 3.253.
Individually, UIndy topped the Conferene with 15 wrestlers and was second among all schools honored, while Drury and Maryville each had 11 honored, including Taylor Jokerst of Maryville being just one of 11 overall who earned the award for the fifth time (due to COVID-19 eligibility waivers). Five were selected from McKendree University, while Ouachita Baptist University and Quincy University each got the nod for one wrestler.
In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for those who qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships and a 3.0 for those who were All-Americans at the 2023 Nationals. Wrestlers must have competed in four dates of competition.
