INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced on Sunday the eight-team field for the 2023 GLVC Softball Championship Tournament, scheduled for May 4-7 in East Peoria, Ill. This season marks the 19th consecutive year the league postseason tournament will be held at the EastSide Centre.
Regular Season Champion Indianapolis earned the No. 1 overall seed, while University of Missouri-St. Louis secured the second seed, McKendree University was tabbed as the 3-seed, Maryville University claimed the 4-seed, University of Illinois Springfield was tabbed fifth, Lewis University enters the postseason as the 6-seed, Rockhurst University will be seeded No. 7, and Drury University rounds out the field as the eighth seed.
The top-eight teams based on Conference winning percentage received a berth in the double-elimination tournament.
Game 1: #4 Maryville vs. #5 Illinois Springfield | Thursday, May 4, 10 AM CT
- Maryville went 27-19 overall and 15-9 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- Illinois Springfield went 33-20 overall and 14-10 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- The Saints and Prairie Stars split their doubleheader on March 20, as UIS won the first game 5-2 before Maryville bounced back for a 12-6 win in St. Louis.
- Maryville is making its fifth appearance in the GLVC postseason and fourth in a row.
- UIS is making its ninth appearance in the GLVC postseason and sixth-straight.
- Maryville lost a head-to-head tiebreaker to McKendree for the third seed by getting swept by the Bearcats on April 29.
- UIS won a tiebreaker over Lewis for the fifth seed after splitting their DH on April 2; both were swept by top-seeded UIndy and second-seeded UMSL; but UIS split with third-seeded McKendree, while Lewis was swept by the Bearcats.
Game 2: #1 Indianapolis vs. #8 Drury | Thursday, May 4, 12:30 PM CT
- Indianapolis went 47-6 overall and 20-3 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- The NFCA sixth-ranked Greyhounds earned the GLVC Regular Season title and now have won either the Regular Season or Divisional crown a GLVC-best five times.
- Drury went 25-25 overall and 13-11 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- The Greyhounds swept the Panthers on April 22 at home, 3-2 and 4-3.
- UIndy is making its 33rd appearance in the GLVC postseason and fifth in a row with three Conference titles to its name, winning in 2012, 2016, and 2021.
- Drury is making its sixth appearance in the GLVC postseason and fourth consecutive.
- Drury won a tiebreaker against Quincy for the final seed after splitting their DH on April 8; both were swept by top-seeded UIndy; but Drury split with second-seeded UMSL, while Quincy was swept by the Tritons.
Game 3: #2 Missouri-St. Louis vs. #7 Rockhurst | Thursday, May 4, 3:00 PM CT
- Missouri-St. Louis went 30-18 overall and 16-8 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- Rockhurst went 20-24 overall and 13-10 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- The Tritons and Hawks split in St. Louis on April 2, as Rockhurst won 7-5 in the first game and UMSL returned the favor with a 5-0 result in the second game.
- UMSL is making its 21st appearance in the GLVC postseason and second in a row, having claimed a Conference title in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2019.
- Rockhurst is making its eighth appearance in the GLVC postseason and third in a row.
Game 4: #3 McKendree vs. #6 Lewis | Thursday, May 4, 5:30 PM CT
- McKendree went 29-14 overall and 15-9 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- Lewis went 32-17 overall and 14-10 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- The Bearcats swept the Flyers in the GLVC-opener on March 20 with wins of 13-1 and 5-0.
- McKendree is making its fifth appearance in the GLVC postseason but first since 2021.
- Lewis is making its league-best 34th appearance in the GLVC postseason and owns the most Conference titles with 10 but are in search of its first since going back-to-back in 2010 and 2011.
- McKendree won a head-to-head tiebreaker to Maryville for the third seed by sweeping by the Saints on April 29.
- Lewis lost a tiebreaker over UIS for the fifth seed after splitting their DH on April 2; both were swept by top-seeded UIndy and second-seeded UMSL; but UIS split with third-seeded McKendree, while Lewis was swept by the Bearcats.
