Jewell Takes Home First GLVC Men’s Basketball Crown

 

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – No. 5 seed William Jewell College captured the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men's Basketball Championship title on Sunday with an 83-65 victory over No. 3 seed Lewis University in Hyland Arena.
 
William Jewell, with its first-ever GLVC Championship in school history in any sport, clinches the league’s automatic qualifying bid to the 2024 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional. They await the NCAA Selection Show tonight at 11:00 PM Eastern Time.

The Cardinals swapped the lead throughout the first half, but ultimately came out on top on 60.4% shooting from the field (32-of-53), going 45% (9-of-20) from the arc, and 83.3% (10-of-12) from the charity stripe. Jewell held Lewis to 46.4% (26-of-56) from the field and 36.8% (7-of-19) from three, while the Flyers went 75% (6-of-8) from the free throw line. Jewell utilized the mistakes made by Lewis, outscoring them 24-12 on turnovers. After leading by three going into the half, the Cardinals would outscore the Flyers 46-31.
 
All five of Jewell’s starters finished with double-digits, led by Jordan Jermain’s game-high 26 points on 8-of-12 (.667) shooting that included a 5-of-6 (.833) clip from three-point range, while also adding seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
 
Lewis’ team-high was led by Beau Frericks and his 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
 
Kobe McKinley was named to the All-Tournament team as the Most Valuable Player, while teammates Jermain and Isaac Patterson were also recognized. Lewis’ Cem Kirciman and Jesse Bingham of the University of Indianapolis rounded out the five-player squad.
