S&T, UMSL Remain Unbeaten; UIndy Still Alive After Day Two of GLVC Baseball Championship Tournament

MARION, Ill. – Top two seeds, No. 1 Missouri S&T, and No.2 Missouri-St. Louis remian undefeated heading to Friday’s Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Baseball semifinals at Mtn. Dew Park. Third-seeded Indianapolis awaits in the loser’s bracket.

The Miners and the Tritons will start the day at 2 p.m. CT, with the loser facing off against Indianapolis in an elimination game at 5:30 p.m.

  • S&T used patient small ball to their advantage, scoring a first inning sacrifice fly from Garrett Meyer.
  • S&T added three runs in the fifth inning via three bases loaded walks.

  • S&T Drew Baugus hit an RBI single in the eighth, with Bricen Smith adding a three-run single that led to Smith scoring on a fielding error.

  • UMSL responded in the bottom half of the inning with a Justin Simard RBI ground-rule double.

  • Gavin Duran of UINDY hit a sacrifice fly to give the Greyhounds the lead in the top of the seventh
  • UMSL rallied and scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth off a throwing error and a Justin Terhaar single.
  • UMSL Dustin Hagens pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless ball, striking out five,  recording the win.

  • DU’s Xander Schmitt hit a triple into left field to get the Panthers their second run of the game
  • UINDY finished off the run-rule with one run in the sixth, and four in the bottom of the seventh when Luke Smock hit a bases clearing triple to end the game.
