UMSL Claims 2026 GLVC Baseball Championship

MARION, Ill. – Second-seeded Missouri-St. Louis won the championship game on Sunday to secure the 2026 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Baseball Championship, taking down No. 1 Missouri S&T 13-8 in the title game at Mtn. Dew Park.
 
The league crown is the second in the sport for the Tritons after making its fourth appearance in the Championship game, with the first crown coming in 2003. Missouri-St. Louis earns the automatic-qualifying bid to the 2026 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional tournament, which starts on May 14, and will learn its seed in tomorrow night’s selection show at 10:30 p.m. ET.

  • UMSL got the scoring started in the third inning with a Justin Terhaar double and then a Bennett Cagel two-run single.
  • S&T responded with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the third
  • UMSL opened up the game with seven runs scored in the middle frames, while S&T could only add a single score.
    • Garret Strenger had an RBI double and a three-run double in the fifth and sixth innings
  • S&T rallied in the eighth to cut the Triton lead to four when UMSL had a fielding error that scored Bricen Smith.
  • UMSL added three runs in the top of the ninth with a wild pitch, a Terhaar sacrifice fly, and a Mitch Bonczkowski single.
  • S&T added two runs on a Nick Krodinger single and a Garrett Meyer double, but UMSL closer Dustin Hagens struck out two of the final three batters to finish the game.
  • UMSL’s Strenger had four RBIs while Bonczkowski went 5-for-6 and two RBIs.
  • S&Ts Drew Baugus and Meyer had two RBI’s each while Will Muench had three hits.
  • UMSL Brandon Johnson pitched three innings in relief striking out five while Hagens went 1.2 innings with three Ks.
  • S&T’s Nate Donovan went 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
