Eight Teams Set to Vie for
20th GLVC Women's Soccer Championship
The 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament will take place Nov. 7 and 9 at the highest remaining seed following first-round action on Nov. 2. The top-four seeds will host the tournament openers in the eight-team bracket.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance in the GLVC Championship Tournament, which will be hosted by the highest-seeded semifinalist on Friday, Nov. 7. Two semifinal contests will be played Friday at times to be determined, while the 2014 GLVC Championship Tournament final will take place Sunday, Nov. 9.
Tickets and game times will be announced during the week of the GLVC Championship Tournament once the highest-remaining seed and host is known.
This season marks the 20th year of the GLVC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The 2014 event will also be the 10th consecutive year that eight schools will participate in the GLVC Championship.
Former GLVC member Northern Kentucky leads the conference with seven league titles, followed by UW-Parkside with four crowns and Quincy and Saint Joseph's with two each. Four schools have claimed one GLVC Championship apiece, including Bellarmine, Drury, Indianapolis, and Lewis.
Last year, Quincy successfully defended its title -- and its home turf -- with a 2-1 victory over the UW-Parkside Sunday at Legends Stadium in Quincy, Ill. Participating in its fifth GLVC Championship title game and third straight, the top-seeded Lady Hawks earned both their second-consecutive and second-ever GLVC Championship on its home field. The third-seeded Rangers were denied their fifth GLVC title in their sixth finals appearance.
The remainder of the 2013 GLVC Championship Tournament field was comprised of No. 2 Truman State, No. 4 Rockhurst, No. 5 Bellarmine, No. 6 Drury, No. 7 William Jewell, and No. 8 McKendree.
