GLVC Soccer Championship Tournaments Unite For First Time at Neutral Site
For the first time in league history, the GLVC Men's and Women's Soccer Championship Tournaments will unite at a neutral site in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Michael Carroll Stadium, on the campus of IUPUI, will host the postseason tournaments Nov. 4-6, featuring the highest remaining seeds that advanced following first-round action on Oct. 30. The top-four seeds will host the tournament openers in the eight-team bracket.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance in their respective tournaments, and will compete in two semifinal contests on Friday, Nov. 4.
The 2016 GLVC Championship Tournament finals will take place Sunday, Nov. 6.
Tickets and game times will be announced during the week of the GLVC Championship Tournament.
This season marks the 38th year of the GLVC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. Southern Indiana has won the GLVC Men's Soccer Championship a record 10 times with the Eagles last title coming in 1991. Lewis has earned eight titles, Rockhurst and former GLVC member Northern Kentucky have captured five crowns, and former league member SIU Edwardsville follows with four titles. Drury, Indianapolis, Quincy, UW-Parkside and former Conference member IPFW have each claimed one league crown.
Last year, Rockhurst earned its fifth crown in 11 years with a 1-0 victory over Quincy in Kansas City. Rockhurst has won three of the past four GLVC Championships and is a perfect 5-0 in GLVC Championship title games since 2005.
This season marks the 22nd year of the GLVC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Former GLVC member Northern Kentucky leads the Conference with seven league titles, followed by UW-Parkside with five crowns and Quincy and Saint Joseph's with two each. Five schools have claimed one GLVC Championship apiece, including Bellarmine, Drury, Indianapolis, Lewis and Truman State.
Last year, No. 2 seed Truman State earned its first ever GLVC crown with a 2-0 victory over Missouri-St. Louis in Louisville, Kentucky.
All games from Carroll Stadium will be streamed live on the GLVC Sports Network at GLVCSN.com. GLVCSN quarterfinal coverage from campus will be announced the week of the tournament.
