INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis was voted in the preseason coaches' poll as the favorite to win the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) men's soccer title, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The preseason poll is selected by the league's head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.
No. 1 Lewis
- Tallied seven first-place votes and 186 total points.
- Received votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
- The Flyers claimed both the GLVC Regular Season and Conference Tournament titles, going 11-3-8 overall and 9-1-4 in league competition.
- Lewis reached the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight season.
- Six-time GLVC Coach of the Year Evan Fiffles returns to the sideline for his 34th season for the Flyers, holding a 378-185-59 record.
- The Flyers return First Team All-GLVC defender Nicholas Rogalski, along with senior forwards Makonnen Stampley and Mikey Revell.
- Rogalski started 21 of 22 games on the back line last year, helping Lewis allow just 0.77 goals per game.
- Stampley placed first in the league for game-winning goals (5) and tied for fifth in goals (6).
- Revell tied for second in the conference for assists with seven.
No. 2 McKendree
- Received six first-place votes and 184 total points.
- Ranked fourth in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
- The Bearcats tied for second in the regular season, going 15-1-7 overall and 8-0-6 in GLVC competition.
- McKendree qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third time under head coach Scott Gyllenborg, advancing to the semifinals for the first time in program history.
- Gyllenborg enters his ninth season for the Bearcats, where he has a 74-43-29 record.
- Two All-GLVC honorees return for the Bearcats in sophomore defender Philipp Muehlhans and sophomore freshman Adam Reiniger.
- Muehlhans was a main piece of the best defense in the conference last year, helping to hold opponents to just 13 goals in 23 games and secure First Team All-GLVC honors.
- Reiniger scored five goals for 10 points last season to earn a Second Team All-GLVC spot.
No. 3 Maryville
- Tallied one first-place vote and 168 total points.
- Received votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
- The Saints finished with a 11-5-6 overall and 9-2-3 conference record last season, making it to the GLVC Tournament title game.
- Maryville advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight year.
- Head coach Adam Hall enters his second season with the Saints.
- Maryville returns five players that started at least 10 games last season, led by junior forward Sebastian Weitlaner and senior goalkeeper Steen Nielsen.
- Weitlaner tied for third on the team in goals (4) and points (11) in 2024.
- Nielsen notched the third-best goals against average (.821) in the conference last year.
No. 4 Indianapolis
- Received one first-place vote and 167 total points.
- The Greyhounds posted a 9-5-4 overall mark while going 8-2-4 in GLVC action.
- Gabe Hall heads into his fourth year with UIndy, holding a 31-12-14 record.
- Indianapolis returns a trio of All-GLVC selections – second-team forward Roman Beko, third-team goalkeeper Ionas Giovanidis, and third-team forward Alvaro Sanchez.
- Beko was a main facilitator for the Greyhounds last season, tying for fifth in the league in assists (6).
- Giovanidis finished third in the conference for shutouts (6) and fourth for goals against average (.875) in 2024.
- Sanchez tallied four goals and one assist for nine points last year.
Rounding out the poll respectively in fifth through 15th were Missouri-St. Louis (123 points), Drury (116), Rockhurst (114), Illinois Springfield (113), Lincoln (105), Missouri S&T (87), Quincy (59), Truman State (56), William Jewell (41), Upper Iowa (38), and Southwest Baptist (18).
