KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches announced Maryville goalkeeper Albert Escuin as the Division II Men's College Player of the Week on Wednesday. Escuin received this national recognition after earning a pair of shutouts against William Jewell College and No. 17 Rockhurst University this past weekend.
The senior from Torrent, Valencia, Spain becomes the first men's soccer player from Maryville to earn a national weekly award. He additionally won Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his impressive showing on Friday and Sunday.
On Friday against William Jewell, Escuin made four saves to preserve a 1-0 shutout victory for the Saints. At 16:06, he made his biggest stop of the weekend, denying a penalty kick opportunity with a diving save to his left.
He followed up with his fifth shutout of the season on Sunday against No. 17 Rockhurst. He and the Saints defensive kept shot attempts to a minimum, making his only save at 69:20 when he slammed the door shut on Hawks midfielder Jacopo Belardo.
Escuin and the Saints are back on the road on Friday, Oct. 7, in a GLVC matchup against Drury University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
