INDIANAPOLIS – The bracket is set for this week’s 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Baseball Championship Tournament, which will return for the second year in a row to the Lou Brock Sports Complex on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, May 12-15.
University of Illinois Springfield (39-8, 19-5 GLVC) and Drury University (36-14, 21-7) respectively earned the top Blue and Green Division seeds for the double-elimination postseason event and their respective Regular Season Divisional titles. The Blue’s second seed went to Quincy (30-20, 15-9), while Maryville University (31-18, 20-8) snagged the second seed in the Green Division. Blue seed No. 3 was Lewis University (19-23-1, 13-11), and host Lindenwood University (27-22, 16-12) will be Green seed No. 3. The fourth-seeded Blue and Green teams were University of Indianapolis (20-29, 11-13) and William Jewell College (30-19, 15-13), respectively.
William Jewell earned the fourth seed in its division after winning a tiebreaker over McKendree University (20-27, 15-13) due to the teams’ comparative head-to-head result over Maryville in the regular season, as the Cardinals went 2-2 in their series against the Saints and the Bearcats were 1-3. The first tiebreaker is head-to-head results of the tied teams, but they split their series April 29-May 1. The next tiebreaker is overall record against divisional opponents, but since teams only play a divisional schedule this year, that tiebreaker is not applicable. The next tiebreaker is head-to-head competition with the remaining divisional institutions in order of their divisional standing (each team’s record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the regular season divisional standings and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage). In following that, both Jewell and McKendree went 1-3 against 1-seed Drury, so the results against 2-seed Maryville clinched Jewell’s bid to the Championship.
Tournament action begins on Thursday, May 12, with No. 2 Blue Quincy battling No. 3 Green Lindenwood Drury at 9 AM Central Time. Game two features No. 2G Maryville against No. 3B Lewis at 12:30 PM CT. The third game of the day has No. 1B Illinois Springfield facing No. 4G William Jewell at 4 PM, while the 7:30 PM nightcap features No. 1G Drury against No. 4B Indianapolis.
Friday and Saturday action will feature four games at the same times – 9 AM, 12:30 PM, 4 PM, 7:30 PM – with Sunday’s Championship contest based on “if necessary” games.
Tickets for the 42nd annual Conference Tournament are $12 for adults and $5 for youth (6-17) and students (with ID), while kids 5-and-under are free. Tickets must be purchased online in advance at
