Rockhurst, Lincoln, UIS Take Home GLVC Men’s Soccer Major Accolades

INDIANAPOLIS – Lincoln senior midfielder Kevon Maitland, Illinois Springfield freshman forward Robin Lemke Bergseth, and a trio of Rockhurst players – junior defender Mattia Petricca, senior goalkeeper Franco Briani Brunoro, and head mentor Tony Tocco have earned major postseason honors for the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) men's soccer season, the league office announced on Tuesday.
 
Maitland was named Offensive Player of the Year, Petricca earned Defensive Player of the Year, Briani Brunoro claimed Goalkeeper of the Year, Lemke Bergseth garnered Freshman of the Year, and Tocco was dubbed Coach of the Year by his peers. In total, 33 student-athletes claimed All-Conference honors, while 15 were chosen as GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honorees for the sport and Missouri S&T was selected as the team sportsmanship award winner.

The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.
 
Offensive Player of the Year: Kevon Maitland, Senior, Midfielder, Lincoln
  • Becomes Lincoln's first-ever major award winner in the sport
  • Appeared in all 16 games, starting 14 and recording 1,258 minutes
  • Placed first in GLVC-only matches in points (20) and game-winning goals (4), along with tying for first in goals (8)
    • Landed in third for shots (39) and tied for third in assists (4)
  • Finished first in the league overall in points (20) and tied for first in game-winning goals (4)
  • Also named to All-GLVC First Team
 
Defensive Player of the Year: Mattia Petricca, Junior, Defender, Rockhurst
  • Becomes Rockhurst's sixth Defensive Player of the Year, with Logan Feldmann winning the last award for the Hawks in 2017
  • Started all 17 games on the backline, playing in all 1,420 minutes
  • Helped the Hawks hold opponents to 12 goals – the lowest in the league – while recording seven shutouts
  • Added two assists
  • Named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 3
  • Also named to All-GLVC Second Team
 
Goalkeeper of the Year: Franco Briani Brunoro, Senior, Rockhurst
  • Becomes Rockhurst's first-ever Goalkeeper of the Year
  • Appeared in 12 games and started 11, playing 978 minutes
  • Led league for GLVC-only matches in goals against average (.444), save percentage (.846), and shutouts (8)
    • Stopped 33 shots
  • Paced league overall with a .505 goals-against average, tied for first with eight shutouts, and finished second with a .825 save percentage
  • Named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week on Sep. 15
  • Also named to All-GLVC First Team

Freshman of the Year: Robin Lemke Bergseth, Forward, Illinois Springfield
  • Becomes UIS's first-ever Freshman of the Year
  • Appeared in 17 games and started 12, registering 1,131 minutes
  • Tied for fourth in GLVC-only matches with six goals and tied for fifth with 13 points
  • Finished tied for seventh in league overall in goals (6)
    • Added two assists
  • Also named to All-GLVC Second Team
 
Coach of the Year: Tony Tocco, Rockhurst
  • Earns his seventh Coach of the Year award and first since 2017
  • Led the Hawks to 11-3-3 overall record and 10-1-3 GLVC record, as well as the top seed in GLVC Championship Tournament
  • Mentored Petricca and Briani Brunoro to GLVC major awards and seven players to All-GLVC recognition, including six First Team honorees
 
In addition to Lincoln's Maitland and Rockhurst's Briani Brunoro – nine others earned All-GLVC First Team honors. Rockhurst's Blake Barrick, Noah Brende, Kaden Cripe, Asier Olano, and Immanuel Wayoro joined their teammate on the First Team, while the Indianapolis duo of Joey Longo and Gio Terlizzi also appeared on the list. Maryville's Sebastian Weitlaner and Missouri S&T's Joao Vieira rounded out the group.
 
The 15 GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees are listed below, which are student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
