COAL VALLEY, Ill –University of Indianapolis sophomore Caroline Whallon took the individual crown in stroke play at the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women's Golf Championship, winning by three strokes at the Oakwood Country Club on Saturday.
Whallon fired a 54-hole total of 7-over-par 220, carding rounds of 71, 76, and 63. The Noblesville, Indiana native pulled away from the rest of the field in the final round with two birdies, and only four bogeys.
The top-five finishers were named to the first half of the All-Conference squad. Joining Whallon was University of Missouri-St. Louis junior Wilma Zanderau (77-74-72–223), who finished runner-up after placing second in 2024. Indianapolis junior Ava Ray (77-72-75–224) placed third with University of Illinois Springfield junior Elaine Grant (72-74-81–227) placing fourth, while UMSL freshman Myan Covarrubias (76-75-78–229) rounded out the All-GLVC finishers.
The remaining five positions on the All-Conference team, along with Player, Freshman, and Coach of the Year awards, as well as the individual and team winner of the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award, will be announced following a coaches' vote prior to NCAA Regional competition.
On the team side, UMSL (305-306-303–914) beat out Indianapolis (309-312-306–927) to earn the top seed in Sunday’s medal/match play competition. The Tritons will meet fourth-seeded UIS (314-317-331–962), while the Greyhounds will battle third-seeded Drury (315-321-323–959).
Maryville University (318-325-320–963) and McKendree University (321-324-320-965) finished within two strokes of each other to land in fifth and sixth place, respectively. William Jewell College (321-330-326–977) took seventh, followed by Rockhurst University (330-335-323–988) in eighth. Rounding out the field in ninth through 13th was Lewis University (333-329-334–996), Quincy University (333-339-330–1002), Upper Iowa University (348-336-342–1026), Truman State University (345-341-351–1037), and Lincoln University (362-346-363–1071).
The start time for Sunday’s semifinal rounds of medal/match play is 8 a.m. CT. When the teams tee off, UMSL/UIS will start at the No. 1 tee and Indianapolis/Drury from No. 10.
