GLVC Soccer Championship Tournaments Unite For Second Time at Neutral Site
This season marks the 23rd year of the GLVC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Former GLVC member Northern Kentucky leads the Conference with seven league titles, followed by UW-Parkside with five crowns while Quincy and Saint Joseph's have two each. Six schools have claimed one GLVC Championship apiece, including Bellarmine, Drury, Indianapolis, Lewis, McKendree and Truman State.
Last year, No. 4 seed McKendree earned its first ever GLVC crown with a 2-1 overtime victory over Rockhurst.
This season marks the 39th year of the GLVC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. Southern Indiana has won the GLVC Men's Soccer Championship a record 10 times with the Eagles last title coming in 1991. Lewis has earned eight titles, Rockhurst has captured six crowns, former GLVC member Northern Kentucky earned five crowns, and former league member SIU Edwardsville follows with four titles. Drury, Indianapolis, Quincy, UW-Parkside and former Conference member IPFW have each claimed one league crown.
Last year, Rockhurst repeated as the GLVC Champions, earning its sixth crown in 12 years with a 4-3 win in penalty kicks over Indianapolis. Rockhurst has won four of the past five GLVC Championships and is a perfect 6-0 in GLVC Championship title games since 2005.
Tickets and game times will be announced during the week of the GLVC Championship Tournament.
The 2017 GLVC Championship Tournament finals will take place Sunday, Nov. 5.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance in their respective tournaments, and will compete in two semifinal contests on Friday, Nov. 3.
Michael Carroll Stadium, on the campus of IUPUI, will host the postseason tournaments Nov. 3-5, featuring the highest remaining seeds that advanced following first-round action on Oct. 29. The top-four seeds will host the tournament openers in the eight-team bracket.
For the second time in league history, the GLVC Men's and Women's Soccer Championship Tournaments will unite at a neutral site in Indianapolis, Indiana.
All games from Carroll Stadium will be streamed live on the GLVC Sports Network at GLVCSN.com, on Android and iOS mobile apps, as well as OTT apps via AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV. GLVCSN quarterfinal coverage from campus will be announced the week of the tournament.
