COAL VALLEY, Ill. – The Missouri-St. Louis Tritons holds a ten-shot team lead, while University of Illinois Springfield's Elaine Grant is in first in the individual race after the opening day of the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois.
Behind UMSL (611) is University of Indianapolis (621) and Illinois Springfield (631). Sitting in fourth place is Drury University (636) with Maryville University (643) and McKendree University (645) fighting for fifth. William Jewell College (651) and Lewis University (662) settled in seventh and eighth place, respectively. Rounding out the field in ninth through 13th are Rockhurst University (665), Quincy University (671), Upper Iowa University (684), Truman State University (686), and Lincoln University (708). The top-four teams at the end of 54 holes of stroke play on Saturday will advance to Sunday's medal/match play semifinals.
Grant shot a 4-over-par 146 and is trailed by a pair of Indianapolis teammates Caroline Whallon (+5, 147) and Ava Ray (+7, 149). They are followed by a pair at 9-over-par (151) of UMSL teammates Wilma Zanderau and Myan Covarrubias. Maryville’s Fernanda Diaz-Pizarro, Drury’s Isabelle Thrall, and UMSL’s Emely Wahl are tied for sixth with a 154, +12. Upper Iowa’s Katie Schweers, UMSL’s Hillary Currier, and Lincoln’s Divyasheni Gunasegar are all tied for ninth with a 155, +13.
The GLVC Women's Golf Championship will continue to be streamed live and free on all GLVC Sports Network platforms, including GLVCSN.com, iOS/Android mobile apps, and Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV OTT apps. Full coverage with play-by-play commentary from Josh McGehee will begin at 7:55 AM. Coverage will feature 18 and 9 green, 1 tee and 10 tee, and other select shots.
