ALLENDALE, Mich. – McKendree secured the first-ever Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women’s Wrestling title on Saturday at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena on the campus of Grand Valley State.
The second-ranked Bearcats earned the inaugural crown after defeating No. 4 GVSU and Davenport in dominant fashion to finish its league slate with a perfect 5-0 record.

- MCK swept all 10 weight classes, recording three pins, four tech-fall wins, and three victories by decision.
- No. 2-ranked Destiny Rodriguez (180-lb division) registered the quickest win of the match, pinning Rihanna Venegas in just 36 seconds.
- Top-ranked Gabriele Tedesco (110) and Katey Valdez (103) also pinned their opponent to earn five points apiece for the Bearcats.
- No. 1 Yu Sakamoto (117), No. 1 Shelby Moore (124), Cameron Guerin (131), No. 2 Haylie Jaffe (138), Alexis Gomez (145), No. 2 Savannah Gomez (160), and Tristan Kelly (207) also secured victories in their respective matches.
#2 McKendree 49, Davenport 0
- MCK won six matchups in its second dual of the day and claimed the other four via forfeit.
- Three wrestlers – No. 3 Alex Szkotnicki (131), Alexis Gomez, and Alison Evans (180) – were victorious after pins in the first period.
- Jaffe and Savannah Gomez collected shutout wins via tech fall and Moore won by default.
Conference teams now await the NCAA Division II Super Regionals on the third weekend in February. Davenport, Grand Valley State, and Northern Michigan will compete in Super Region 4 in Tiffin, Ohio and Quincy and Upper Iowa will travel to Simpson, Iowa for the Super Region 5 tournament on Feb. 20-21. Super Region 6 includes McKendree and William Jewell on Feb. 21-22, with Lindenwood serving as the host in St. Charles, Missouri.
The All-GLVC teams and major award winners will be determined in the coming weeks, pending a vote of the league’s head coaches.
