GLVC Soccer Championship Tournaments Unite at New Venue
The 2018 GLVC Men's and Women's Scocer Championship Tournaments will be held Nov. 2 and 4 at the Woehrle Athletic Complex in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This year's event marks the third-straight season both the men's and women's tournaments have been played at a neutral site, as the first two were held in 2016 and 2017 at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Tournament action opens on Sunday, Oct. 28 with quarterfinal matches held on the campuses of the top-four seeds.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance in their respective tournaments and compete in the semifinal contests on Friday, Nov. 2.
The 2018 GLVC Championship Tournament finals will take place Sunday, Nov. 4.
This season marks the 40th year of the GLVC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. Southern Indiana has won the GLVC Men's Soccer Championship a record 10 times with the Eagles last title coming in 1991. Lewis has earned eight titles, Rockhurst has captured six crowns, former GLVC member Northern Kentucky earned five, and former league member SIU Edwardsville follows with four titles. Indianapolis owns two overall, while Drury, Quincy, and former Conference members IPFW and UW-Parkside have each claimed one league crown.
Last year, No. 4 seed UIndy scored in the 90th minute to defeat No. 7 Southern Indiana, 1-0.
This season marks the 25th year of the GLVC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Former GLVC members Northern Kentucky and UW-Parkside lead the Conference with seven and five league titles, respectively, followed by McKendree, Quincy and another former member Saint Joseph's with two each. Five schools have claimed one GLVC Championship apiece, including Bellarmine, Drury, Indianapolis, Lewis, and Truman State.
Last year, No. 2 seed McKendree earned its second-straight GLVC crown with a 3-0 blanking of top-seeded Quincy.
Game times will be announced during the week of the GLVC Championship Tournament.
All games from Woehrle Athletic Complex will be streamed live on the GLVC Sports Network at GLVCSN.com, on Android and iOS mobile apps, as well as OTT apps via AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV. GLVCSN quarterfinal coverage from campus will be announced the week of the tournament.
